Sanctuary City: Heartland city pushes for non-enforcement of immigration laws

Whenever there is a criminal incident involving an illegal alien, it appears more is done to conceal the immigration status of the suspect than to investigate the actual crime at hand.

Although the Obama Administration is targeting Arizona and other states that are directing local police officers more latitude in enforcing the nation's immigration laws, the President, Attorney General Eric Holder, Immigration & Customs Enforcement chief John Morton and others are ignoring states and cities that are refusing to comply with federal law regulating illegal immigration.

While local governments across the U.S. work to contain the devastating impact of illegal immigration, lawmakers in one Midwest city are considering enacting legislation to attract undocumented immigrants -- a/k/a illegal aliens.

Members of the City Council in Iowa City announced last week that they are contemplating passing a measure to make their municipality a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The idea was introduced by a group of influential community leaders that believe illegal immigrants should have protections, according to Judicial Watch, a public-interest group that investigates political corruption and abuse.

Iowa City seeks to gain an exemption from a program (Secure Communities) that requires local authorities to check the fingerprints of arrestees against a federal database.

The idea of Secure Communities, which is run by the Homeland Security Department's Immigration & Customs Enforcement directorate, or ICE, is to deport dangerous criminal aliens, many of whom have fallen through the cracks over the years.

The city’s legal department is preparing the paperwork for council members to consider and several officials, including the police chief, have met to discuss offering illegal immigrants sanctuary. That means the city will shield illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities and no public resources—including police—will be used to enforce immigration laws.

Nationwide there are dozens of sanctuary cities that have shielded violent illegal aliens from deportation after arrests or criminal convictions because police are banned from inquiring about suspects’ immigration status. Judicial Watch has sued several major police departments — including Los Angeles and Chicago — for their illegal don’t-ask-don’t tell immigration policies, which have enabled repeat offenders to continue victimizing innocent Americans.

The Obama Justice Department has made clear that it will not take action against local governments that violate the federal statute by offering illegal immigrants sanctuary. The 14-year-old law (Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act of 1996) specifically requires states and municipalities to cooperate with federal authorities when it comes to immigration enforcement.

As a state, Iowa has long been friendly to illegal immigrants. For years state lawmakers have worked to pass a measure to give illegal aliens discounted in-state tuition at public colleges and universities. The state’s renowned meatpacking factories are also magnets for undocumented workers. A few years ago, hundreds of illegal aliens were arrested at local meatpacking plants in the nation’s largest workplace raids.

Special thanks to Jill Farrell of Judicial Watch for her invaluable help with this report.

I find it, personally, sick that illegal aliens are pinned against the citizens of the United States of America for fair wages. When SEIU,many other unions, and La Raza take hold of our ways and currupt them we need to fight back. Do no hire illegals to work in your home, or around you; unless you like being paid 5%-9% less than what you should be making.

Oh, and for those who think that illegals do a lot of good I have some news: Illegals count for over 4% of the population yet contribute only 1% to our economy.

Anyone who has read history knows that if you want to bring down an empire you do it by knocking down its system and what easier way that to turn citizens against each other?

Obama is straight treasonous against our constitution and his oath.

DHS needs to be renamed DTF for "designed to fail". Besides all the confusing sets of conflicting laws, we have a severe case of third world "selective enforcement", the technique used by fascist governments worldwide.

The same Stedman led Justice Dept. that sues AZ for enforcing existing Federal laws also ignores all the states offering illegal alien driver's licenses and in state tuition for illegal aliens in direct conflict with the 1996 Federal Immigration Act. Never mind those that offer sanctuary from federal Immigration laws.

No matter, the La Raza crowd has open borders, zero interior enforcement, the 14th admendment, chain migration, high birth rates, a resistance to assimulation, sanctuary cities and states, the media, all 3 branches of government, the unions, a weak and cowardly populace distracted by dancers and frozen from the word racist and most importantly, TIME.

This is amnesty on the installment plan. According to the Census Dept, the USA will be transformed into a poor third world meso american peasant country of over 1 BILLION by 2100. Nothing else needs to be done. Anyone that doesn't like it needs to make arrangements to leave.
It's all over except for the fat senorita singing...

I, for one, am just sick and tired of these illegal aliens snubbing their nose at our immigration laws and the many other laws of this Country. If our Federal Government can not ENFORCE our immigration laws, and get these illegal aliens out of this Country, then let the States do it! One way or another, an end has to come to this illegal immigration, and not with AMNESTY! Amnesty will only encourage more illegal aliens to invade our Country and reward those who broke our laws and raped the American taxpayer in many ways...depressing our wages, taking our jobs, overwhelming our schools with their illegal alien children, driving without a license or car insurance, all the crime from stolen identities to rape, drugs and everything else.

It's time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these illegal aliens. It's time for them get out of this Country and back in their own Country where they belong. When we get rid of the illegal aliens, we will get rid of all the problems that go with them. THAT IS A FACT!
