San Pedro Harbor's Huckleberry saved while this article being published (Photos)

San Pedro, CA: "Huckleberry came into the shelter with a huge heavy chain around his neck," reads the intake card for this poor dog. "This poor baby has obviously seen the worst life has to offer."

Huckleberry's sad eyes reflect a former life of unknown horror. He is only about 2 years old, but came in "completely shut down" and had "given up and lost all hope."

Thanks to some loving volunteers, Huckleberry is responding to the first kindness he's ever been shown in his life. "He appears to be dog friendly and submissive with dogs" greeting "them gently and completely cowered when a dog barked at him."

Huckleberry needs a loving person to realize what a wonderful boy he already is and to help him become the dog he's never been allowed to be.

Huckleberry needs to be hugged, fed good food, allowed to go on walks and play in the sunshine.

Huckleberry weighed only 35 pounds on intake.

From the posts on Facebook, Huckleberry was saved by S.T.A.R.T Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team.

Thanks to this hardworking group, we are happy to shout out the rescuer's favorite cheer, "Huck is out of the building!"

Please post questions below this article and on the S.T.A.R.T. Facebook page to learn more about the rescue group who saved Huckleberry and receive updates on his happy new life.

ARF San Pedro was instrumental in helping save Huckleberry. ARF was created by Harbor Shelter volunteers in San Pedro to "rally the LOCAL community to share, foster and adopt Harbor Shelter animals. Our goal is to place ALL of the wonderful Harbor Shelter animals with either a reputable rescue group or into a loving forever home."

Now, that's how rescue and saving lives works!
