Previously celebrated by Oprah Winfrey as “the Happiest City in America,”San Luis Obispo, CA has been named 5th Healthiest Town in the US according to a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which rates communities according to their frequency of exercise, access to fresh produce, obesity rates, health care coverage, and overall optimism.” In addition, each location was given a number representing its average “well-being” among residents, who also consider their home to be ”one of the Most Romantic Towns and one of the Best Places to Visit in 2014.”

SLO’s score was combined with Paso Robles, and together they were given a “well-being” rate of 71.2, an entire 3.9 points higher than the national average,” exclaimed the town’s chamber of commerce.
Founded in 1772 on land one home to the Chumash people (Native Americans)by Spanish Franciscan Junípero Serra, San Luis Obispo is one of California's oldest communities.

San Luis Obispo is also a favorite destination of CBS News Editor Peter Greenberg, who lauded it for its location as a midway point between LA and San Francisco, as well as its proximity to the vineyards in Paso Robles; a fact also recognized in last month’s issue of Travel + Leisure Magazine, which praised the town for its climate as well as people by stating that SLO “embodies California mellow, making for easy romance.”
