When the lineup for the Silicon Valley S2CV technology and music festival came out, after the initial, gleeful shock of knowing that the pioneers of punk (in the form of Iggy Pop and The Stooges and supergroup OFF!) would be visiting our fair valley, you might have noticed something missing.
Where were the actual rock acts working and living in Silicon Valley? I mean, it’s supposed to be our gig, right? With functions and parties spattered throughout downtown San Jose, we best represent, eh?
And sure, Bosnian Rainbows is part valley (with two Mars Volta/At the Drive Through members hailing from Menlo Park), and there were members of bands with SF bay roots (Occult Wisdom, etc.), but really no boots on the ground.
Well, we were promised more, and the expanded, full lineup was announced today. There. That’s better.
A wide range of San Jose acts will be in tow during the upcoming, three-day festival, representing the full breadth of San Jose music; from folk to punk, Latin to alt-rock and more.
A handful of the usual San Jose rock suspects will be performing, including a few names from this years Live 105, Pepsi Soundcheck stage at BFD. Picture Atlantic, Curious Quail and The Trims all made the bill, as did some of SJ’s renowned punk forces (like Shinobu and The Flames). Local Latin artists, Sonido Clash, made the party, as did the folk two-piece and 2013 Coachella participants, Brother Grand.
Far from forgotten are the San Jose, foster musicians. Bands like Rin Tin Tiger and Talky Tina are as much the local scene as they are their own. A handful of Bay Area electronic musicians (Haptic Synapses) will be shoring up the festivities, as well.
And I’m sure you’ll find many more acts to suit your tastes at this years C2SV. Check out the full line-up of acts, speakers and events at http://c2sv.com/.
