A San Jose mother who allegedly drove the getaway car after her son is believed to have stabbed another teen has been charged with attempted murder, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Margaret Juanita Suazo, 42, was reportedly behind the wheel of a car on February 16 with her 14-year-old son and his 17-year-old friend as passengers. Her son allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and stabbed the young victim multiple times in front of several witnesses at Capitol Avenue and Mabury Road. Suazo then drove off with the two boys in the car. The stabbing is believed to be gang-related and left the victim with a punctured lung and two injured fingers that were almost completely severed.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office told the Mercury News that Suazo has been charged with attempted murder with a gang enhancement that could result in a 19-year prison sentence. She was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court this morning.
According to the Mercury News, Suazo told police she had connections to Norteno gang members as a youth. Her son is facing charges in juvenile court and the 17-year-old is still being sought.
