And how much would the Mega Millions winner actually receive?

That would be $324 million for each winner, or a lump sum of $173.8 million before taxes.

"Next time, perhaps, it might be my turn," says San Francisco resident, Katie Adler. "But I am happy for the winners. I know that what just happened for them will change their lives. That's great news."

In Georgia, the winner must pay federal and state taxes, but in California, there is no state tax on lottery winnings, says the San Jose Mercury News.
