San Japan 4TW

San Japan 4TW is San Antonio’s answer to ComiCon. It is a convention celebrating and exploring Japanese culture, music, video games, manga and Anime. San Japan 4TW has got everything, a swap meet, a masquerade ball, panels and workshops, even dancing through out the night with 24 hour videos rooms!! Different events of cosplay will also be at the center of the convention. “Cosplay” or “costume play” is a type of performance art where the participants are costume clad and act out various famous characters in a choreographed play or dance.  A detailed list of the over 150 events can be found here.  San Japan 4TW runs from August 5th through the 7th at the Riverwalk Marriott in Downtown San Antonio and has various prices for entry ranging between $30 all the way to over $100 for premium access. Registration and pricing can be found here.

This is the 4th year of the convention, earning the title San Japan 4TW (internet speak: For The Win, #ftw). It is expected to draw a crowd of over 5,000 people through out the entire weekend. Begun as a fan run organization, San Japan states its main purpose is to “bring Japanese cultural awareness to San Antonio”.  Attendees are mainly younger people who are big fans of Anime and manga but admission is for all ages. Follow San Japan on Twitter for updates, extras and reminders here. Bring your inner geek and your imagination to the costume filled convention known as San Japan 4TW.
