If you are like most folks circulating the story online through Facebook Twitter and other social media sites, you may have been infuriated about it. Quite frankly, to some people it may sound like something that could happen in San Francisco.

But the story is not true. It is hoax. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that the school Merry Christmas hoax generated 75 complaint calls to the San Francisco Unified School District.

The Internet story claimed a fourth-grader at "Argon Elementary" in San Francisco was given a suspension for a week for saying "Merry Christmas" to his teacher, who is an atheist. The fake story later changed the school name to "Anon."

Neither "Argon" nor "Anon" is exists.

But a sound alike school, Argonne elementary, added extra security over concerns that angry folks might try to confront the school administrators. That never happened.

The source of the story was a satirical Web site called National Report, which like The Onion, features satirical stories made to look like real stories.

So fear not, fellow San Franciscans, your sons and daughters can still wish their favorite teacher Merry Christmas without fear of suspension or other disciplinary action.
