The May Treat Morrison Chamber Music Center of the San Francisco State University (SFSU) College of Liberal and Creative Arts will present a free preview event in association with the Music at Kohl Mansion chamber music series. The Alexander String Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at SFSU since 1989, will join pianist Joyce Yang in a performance of Johannes Brahms Opus 34 piano quintet in F minor, one of the great masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. This performance will be presented in Knuth Hall prior to its inclusion in the full program prepared for the Music at Kohl Mansion recital. All five musicians will then lead a master class, also in Knuth Hall, for students from SFSU, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Crowden School of Music, the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts, and Young Chamber Musicians.
The recital will begin at 1:10 p.m. on Friday, November 8, in Knuth Hall in the SFSU Creative Arts Building, a short walk from the Muni stop for the University. The master class will be held starting at 2:15 p.m. Admission is free, and further information may be obtained from 415-338-2467 or through the event page on the Creative State Web site. This Web page also has a hyperlink through which tickets may be reserved in advance.
