MEROLA OPERA PROGRAM
LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
SAN FRANCISCO—January 8, 2010—The Merola Opera Program will launch its first-ever independent website on Tuesday, January 18 at www.merola.org. Merola’s new website will allow for greater depth of content, including information on giving programs, alumni updates and various membership programs. The site will also showcase archival photos (which will be housed on Merola’s flickr page and displayed directly at www.merola.org), as well as more prominent and dynamic linkage with Merola’s online social media presence across a variety of platforms.
Merola will continue to have content housed within the San Francisco Opera website at www.sfopera.com/merola, where links will direct users to the new site. The new site has been in development for more than two years, with the final programming, design and launch made possible by programmers Randy Shafer and Kyoungha Kim, owners/developers of Rykim Consulting, and Merola’s Director of Membership & Marketing, Michelle Andre – along with Merola staff and board support.
THE MEROLA OPERA PROGRAM, a 501(c)(3) independent nonprofit organization (Jayne Davis, Chairman and Patrick Wilken , President) which operates in collaboration with San Francisco Opera Center ( Sheri Greenawald , Director), and San Francisco Opera (David Gockley , General Director), has nurtured the careers of more than 1,000 up-and-coming singers, accompanists and stage directors since its establishment in 1957. Each year, more than 750 international artists vie for approximately 30 coveted spots in the summer program. Admission is based solely on talent rather than financial ability. There is no charge to the participants. Merola has served as a proving ground for several acclaimed artists including: Sylvia McNair, Anna Netrebko, Patricia Racette, Ruth Ann Swenson, Carol Vaness, Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Dolora Zajick, Brian Asawa, Gary Lakes , Kurt Streit, Jess Thomas, Rolando Villazón, Thomas Hampson, John Relyea and Patrick Summers.
