San Francisco Offside Festival adds another Spark Series concert

As I wrote last month, the San Francisco Offside Festival is about to launch their Spark Series of preview events for the Festival itself. A third performance in San Francisco has now been added to the two mentioned in my last article. This will be the Spark Series Jazz Jam, a fundraiser for SF Offside that will feature many talented local musicians. The opening group will be the Sonny Sharrock Experience, a tribute band honoring the memory of Sonny Sharrock, one of the few guitarists in the free jazz movement of the Sixties and an influential member of the punk/jazz quartet Last Exit. The guitarist for the Sonny Sharrock Experience is Alex Pinto, one of the founders of SF Offside; and he is joined by David Boyce on saxophone, Doug Stuart on bass, and Shaun Lowecki on drums.

The Spark Series Jazz Jam will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. The venue will be the Revolution Cafe at 3248 22nd Street. This is a free show; but, since it is a fundraiser, donations are strongly encouraged. Contributions to the tip jar of $5 or $10 will be gratefully accepted, as will any more generous recognition.
