Aisha Tyler, a San Francisco native, will host an upcoming reboot of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on the CW, "The Hollywood Reporter" noted Friday. Tyler grew up in San Francisco, graduating from the School of the Arts program at McAteer High School. She currently voices Lana on FX's "Archer" and co-hosts CBS's "The Talk," and may be best recognized for portraying Andrea on "Ghost Whisperer," Mia on "CSI," and Charlie on "Friends."
In addition to The CW's press release, Tyler mentioned the return of the series on her twitter (@aishatyler), even admitting that she knows there are "HUGE shoes to fill" in taking over for Drew Carey.
Memorably, Drew Carey hosted "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on ABC from 1998 to 2004, and then on ABCFamily from 2005 until 2007. The improvisational comedy show featured Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles, and Colin Mochrie, whom will all return for ten episodes this summer. Mochrie and Stiles were also performers on the original version of the series in the U.K., Stiles from 1988-1998 and Mochrie from 1991-1998.
A single episode will feature those three gentlemen alongside a guest performer in various short-form games, utilizing prompts from both the audience and the host. Guest performers on the original U.S. rendition included Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Stephen Colbert, David Hasselhoff, and Jerry Springer.
