A record number 24,000 runners attended the 32nd annual San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Runners from all over the world attended the race. For many, this was their first marathon, for others a stepping stone in their marathon goals. For at least two couples, it was an opportunity to propose marriage. Both women said "yes"!

The race course starts and finishes on the Embarcadero. Runners pass through many well know San Francisco landmarks including Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Haight Street, and through the neighborhoods of the Mission, Potrero Hill and Mission Bay.
The marathon race was won, and a new course record set, by Keith Bechtol, 25, in 2:23:28. This was Bechtol's first marathon race. He is an astrophysics student at Stanford University. Michael Wardian took second place in 2:25:21, and Harm Sengers finished third in 2:29:23.
The first three women finshing the marathon race were Emily Hardin in 2:42:12, Brandy Bengoechea in 2:53:26, and Morgan Robinson, 3:01:11.
The male first place finisher in the First Half Marathon was Michael Davitian in 1:15:10, and the first woman was Kristi Rossi in 1:25:41. The Second Half Marathon winners were Matt Kane in 1:04:40 and Jenni Johnson in 1:18:32.
