San Francisco goes wild for Giants World Series 2010 win

San Francisco goes wild for Giants World Series 2010 win

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. -- Last night thousands of San Francisco Giants fans celebrated and cheered both at the city's Civic Center Plaza and outside AT&T Park, after the San Francisco Giants clinched their first World Series championship since moving to San Francisco over 50 years ago.

When the final out was broadcast on Monday at the 2010 World Series in Arlington, Texas, the thousands of fans who were watching the Jumbotron in Civic Center Plaza jumped for joy, hugged and high-fived one another and started kissing strangers in celebration.  In the streets throughout San Francisco horns honked to announce the good news.

Mayor Gavin Newsom had announced the public viewing in Civic Center Plaza after the Giants 4-0 win against the Texas Rangers on Sunday and, on Monday, fans dressed in orange and black colors took their places on the lawn at Civic Center Plaza. One fan even  arrived as early as 12.30pm to secure his spot.

Fans all over the city were delirious at the win.

"It was a very exciting game and they deserved to win," says San Francisco resident and long-time Giants fan, Donal Witham.  "The Giants prevailed 3-1.  The whole city is celebrating and no wonder.  It only took the Giants 19,193 days to bring a World Series championship home, so it's only right that the city take a few days now to celebrate their win."

A parade is being held to celebrate the San Francisco Giants 2010 World Series win and it will take place on Wednesday between Montgomery Street and Civic Center Plaza at 11am.

Fans also celebrated outside AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants with one small fire being lit, but this was quickly contained by police.

The Giants have not won the World Series since 1954 when they were based in New York. They moved to the West Coast four years later.
