San Francisco dwells at the top

We’re high – in the rankings, that is. Check out just a few accolades San Francisco has received recently:

- #1 Best American City (Bloomberg BusinessWeek 2012)

- #1 in Sustainability, Innovation and Livability (Zipcar Metro Index)

- #1 for Halloween Trick-or-Treating (Zillow)

- #1 Greenest City in U.S. and Canada (Economist)

Well. Who knew about the Halloween stuff?

Our high density is one of the reasons we rank so high on many of these stats. Cities with a high concentration of residents are generally considered greener because each person produces a smaller carbon footprint. Our high density also means we have easy access to goods and services – keeping us out of our cars, walking more and staying healthier.

San Francisco seems particularly favorable to women – which mystifies me. The reason is tied to economic opportunity and higher net worth for women. Or maybe we just have a lot of yoga classes.
