As was mentioned about a month ago, the 2013–14 season of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) will begin, as it did last year, with an Alumni Showcase program. This year the alumni will be six composers: Mark Ackerley (’10), Ian Dicke (’04), Mario Godoy (’13), Joseph Stillwell (’10), Kevin Villalta (’13), and Frank Wallace (’74). In addition, their compositions will be performed by alumni members of Friction Quartet, Mobius Trio, New Keys, and Valinor Winds.
Details of the specific compositions have now been announced as follows:
- Mobius Trio (formed in 2010 by guitarists Robert Nance, Mason Fish, and Matthew Holmes-Linder, all members of the class of 2011) will perform Wallace’s “More Gargoyles” and Villalta’s “Witch Wagon.”
- Friction Quartet (violinists Kevin Rogers and Otis Harriel, violist Pei-Ling Lin, and cellist Doug Machiz) will perform Ackerly’s “A Celebration of Vitality” and Godoy’s string quartet.
- Joseph Stillwell’s settings of four poems by William Butler Yeats will be performed by Valinor Winds (Sasha Launer, flute, Jessie Huntsman, oboe, Brenden Guy, clarinet, Alexis Luque, bassoon, and Caitlyn Smith, horn), joined by other alumni.
- The program will conclude with “Déjà,” composed by Dicke for four pianists on two pianos, performed by four of the members of the New Keys ensemble of pianists.
This concert will take place on Friday, September 6, beginning at 8 p.m. The venue will be the SFCM Concert Hall. Tickets are available at $20 for general admission, with a $15 rate for students, seniors, and Friends of the Conservatory. Tickets may be purchased online through the Performance Calendar Web page.
