San Francisco 49ers on Super Bowl: Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Willis, more (Photos)

The San Francisco 49ers arrived in New Orleans on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in preparation for Super Bowl XLVII where they will face the Baltimore Ravens. Upon arriving at the team hotel, coach Jim Harbaugh and various players met with the media to discuss the upcoming week and the game. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick and linebacker Patrick Willis were two of the leaders ready to talk.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh started off the press conference by talking about his team, the history of the 49ers in the Super Bowl and what it took to get where they are. From there, a number of players met with reporters. Players available on Sunday night were:

  • QB Colin Kaepernick
  • LB Patrick Willis
  • OT Joe Staley
  • C Jonathan Goodwin
  • DT Justin Smith
  • FS Dashon Goldson

Kaepernick got his first start on the road against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome. It just so happens that Super Bowl XLVII will be played in the same location, and the 49ers quarterback was asked how it feels being familiar with a location.

"It's always good to be familiar with where you're playing. Especially coming up on Sunday for the Super Bowl. But you've still got to come out and play."

Coach Jim Harbaugh called linebacker Patrick Willis the "fabric of character of the defense." Willis wears number 52, and that happens to be the same number that retiring Ravens' linebacker Ray Lewis also wears. Willis was asked how it felt to be the "other number 52" on the field.

"You go out there and play football...good football...and the rest takes care of itself. As for Ray? I've always respected Ray Lewis and what he's done in his career, but the time is now. We want it bad."

49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith was asked how it feels to come together as a team, and will this San Francisco team have enough to win the Super Bowl.

"We always get together and it is important to get together. We are one and we are the group that will be in the Super Bowl."

It is just day one of media week for Super Bowl XLVII, and it is already a busy one. The Baltimore Ravens arrive on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, and they will have their chance to speak on preparation for the game and their opponents. It's going to be a great week so stay tuned here for all your Super Bowl XLVII directly from New Orleans.
