Draft Day Decision makers: San Francisco 49ers

I wish it was an easy task to sit here and say blah, blah, blah this guy is calling the shots for the San Francisco 49ers from their war room. However given the surprise resignation of General Manager Scot McCloughan, we don't really know what is going within the 49er organization. Trent Baalke is the Director of Player Personnel and seems to be the most likely guy to step in and lead the team through the NFL Draft.

MTR Football.com's 2010 NFL Mock Draft: San Francisco 49ers first round selection

The way this draft is shaking out this is kind of a no brainer. San Francisco has questions at both OT positions. Joe Staley may return from injury  as the starting LT, and the RT spot has been shaky since the retirment of Marvel Smith last August. Barry Simms played pretty well replacing the inured Staley in 2009, and Adam Snyder was servicable but feels more like a backup or swing tackle.

2009 NFL Draft one year later: San Francisco 49ers

The 2009 49er draft class was severely hurt by a senseless hold out, injury, and dare I say it even a few bad draft picks. This class really ends up being a draft class of back ups. While I was pretty down on this draft a year ago, WR Michael Crabtree might have had a great year had he not held out, and we really can blame that on Al Davis.

What should the San Francisco 49ers do with their first round draft picks?

With the sudden departure of the General Manger, in the middle of NFL Free Agency, and NFL Draft preparation, anything could happen with their 2010 NFL Draft. While we do not exactly know what will happen in this power vacuum, we can assume that Head Coach Mike Singletary will gain more power within the organization.

San Francisco 49ers step into a real mess

In the middle of NFL free agency, and just weeks before the NFL draft it appears that San Francisco 49ers and the General Manager, Scot McCloughan have parted ways.

Fix the Franchise: San Francisco 49ers edition

At 8-8 we could argue that the 49ers do not need all that much, of course with just the 18th best offense in 2009 we could argue that there is a lot of work to do. Really this team needs to continue making wise decisions, and allow Head Coach Mike Singletary to do his thing. This may be the easiest fix of the 20 teams not to make the 2009 NFL playoffs. Then again one bad move sets this team way back, so they have to be careful, but bold at the same time. Never an easy thing to accomplish.

What are the 49ers team needs in 2010?

There has been some rumblings about the San Francisco 49ers switching from the 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense. This potential switch could alter their needs in 2010, but the most glaring one is the holes in the defensive secondary.

2009 NFL season in review: San Francisco 49ers

What can we say about a team that went 8-8? It seems that the San Francisco 49ers are a franchise headed down the right path, yet it also seems that their fans expect them to be a lot farther down that trail than they actually are. In each of the last three seasons they have won more games than the previous, but after a 2-0 start to 2009, the Niners suffered through a five week winless streak that seemed to take the steam out of them for the remainder of the season.

49ers, Saints, and Jets ride improved defenses to good records

San Francisco 49ers- No team is a bigger surprise, and they are essentially doing it all on the defensive side of the ball. Of course that may change a bit now that 2009 Number one draft pick, Michael Crabtree, has finally signed with the team. What can you say about the play of linebacker Patrick Willis? Having him on the field is like having 12 defenders. Head Coach Mike Singletary installed a more physical defense in his first training camp, and it seems this team has taken to it. Since their offense still ranks 28th in the league the Niners Defense will have to continue to carry the load.

Crabtree ends hold out, signs deal

After a long hold out, the San Francisco 49ers and Wide out Michael Crabtree finally reached a deal on a six year contract. As we start to look at the details of this contract we start to realize that Crabtree didn’t get anything more than what he was going to get in August. Crabtree essentially flushed a good portion of his rookie year away, for a couple of incentive clauses that will be nearly impossible to reach. He is still getting paid by where he was selected, 10th overall.

49ers and Crabtree at an impasse

The San Francisco 49ers and Michel Crabtree cannot come to an agreement on a rookie deal for the rookie wide out from Texas Tech. Of course we are quick to judge that this is a problem with a player, or with the team trying to get a quality talent on the cheap, however it may not be quite that simple.

2009 San Francisco 49ers Draft analysis

The San Francisco 49ers draft looked a lot better in April then it does in August. Of course now we have the Michael Crabtree holdout to help make a better analysis but overall the Niners had a pretty average draft. In this reality this is still a team trying to recover for a first overall pick that has not worked out yet.
