San Francisco 49er wide receiver Michael Crabtree is being investigated for sexual assault. Investigators released a statement on Friday, Jan. 18 regarding the sexual assault allegations.
Michael Crabtree, the former Texas Tech University star, has been accused of sexual battery by a woman. The San Francisco police department stated that the alleged assault occurred in a San Francisco hotel room.
In the statement released by the police department the assault took place only a few hours after Michael Crabtree’s two touchdowns in the division play-off game against the Green Bay Packers.
The police department has given turned over the investigation to their special victims unit for the investigation. With his attorney present, Michael Crabtree has been interviewed by the detectives and has completely cooperated with their investigation.
Once their investigation is complete the detectives will forward the results to the district attorney’s office. It will be up to the district attorney as to whether or not there is enough evidence for charges to be filed.
The San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke has issued a statement regarding the incident. “The 49ers take such matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing.”
This weekend Michael Crabtree was allowed to travel with the team to Atlanta, GA. There the 49ers will face off against the Falcons in the NFC Championship game.
