San Diego State continues their dream season and improves to 16-0 with a big victory over TCU, 66-53.
The No. 6 San Diego State Aztecs won their first conference game of the season thanks to an early run in the second half of play.
After going into the half leading by three, San Diego State ended up with four dunks and five steals at the start of the second half of play to run away with the win.
"We came out and they took it right to us. We turned the ball over,” said TCU head coach Jim Christian. “If you allow them to get open-floor turnovers, you're in trouble and that's exactly what happened. It was more about us than them. If you turn the ball over, you turn the ball over. That's the problem. We weren't surprised. They didn't change anything. They got a little more aggressive, defensively, and we got a little careless with the ball."
To be fair, San Diego State called a timeout early in the second half and came out reenergized. The run started with a big-time dunk by Malcolm Thomas, followed by a Thomas steal which turned into an alley-oop slam. By the time TCU recovered, San Diego State had put up 13 unanswered points.
"To be honest, I really thought we were spent,” said San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher. “We were exhausted, both physically and mentally. They ran us up and down the court, and fortunately they missed a few shots. We were on our heels. Fortunately, we were able to adjust and come back and get the win."
