The Nevada Wolf Pack suffered through a lost weekend in San Diego.
The Wolf Pack lost to the San Diego State Aztecs, 8-1, on Sunday at Tony Gwynn Stadium, failing to win any of the games in the three-game Mountain West series.
The sweep leaves the Wolf Pack in fourth place in the six-team Mountain West at 5-7 in league play and 17-14 overall. San Diego state (8-4, 17-15) is tied in first place in the conference with New Mexico, a game ahead of UNLV (7-5). Air Force and Fresno State, both 3-7 in conference play, are trailing the Pack.
The Wolf Pack simply forgot to pack their bats for the series in San Diego. The Pack scored just five runs in the three games with four of them coming in a 5-4 loss on Saturday. The Wolf Pack also lost 2-0 on Friday.
Senior right-hander Tom Jameson couldn't stop his own personal losing streak or prevent the Pack from getting swept on Sunday. The 6-foot-7 Jameson went six innings and allowed six hits, two walks and seven runs, though just three of the runs were earned.
Jameson, though, also unleashed six wild pitches. The six wild pitches were more than he has thrown in any one season in his career. He had five wild pitches last year and just three this season heading into Sunday's game.
Jameson threw three wild pitches in the first inning, leading to the first Aztec run. He had two more in the third, paving the way for two more San Diego State runs. The Aztecs then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth.
Jameson is now 0-6 this season with a 7.59 earned run average in eight games and seven starts. His last victory was May 12, 2012 against San Jose State. He has made 10 appearances and nine starts since his last victory.
Michael Bradshaw, Daniel Levine and Adam Whitt took care of the final two innings for the Pack in relief, combining to allow three hits and a run.
The Wolf Pack's only run came in the second inning on a single by Austin Byler and a RBI double by Brett Jones. The Wolf Pack had few scoring chances against Aztec starter Ryan Doran. Doran allowed five hits and a run in 7.2 innings despite walking four.
The Wolf Pack had two runners (Jaimson Rowe, Brooks Klein) thrown out trying to steal and another (Scott Kaplan) tossed out trying to go from first to third on a single. The Pack's biggest opportunity to get back into the game, though, was the eighth inning when Lance Berringer walked and Bryce Barger and Hugo Hernandez singled to load the bases with two out. Byler, though, flied out to right to end the inning.
The Wolf Pack will host San Francisco on Tuesday at Peccole Park at noon.
