We hear it all the time, don't we? San Diego is "America's Finest City". We pat each other on the back from time to time, regularly boasting about our near-perfect, year-round weather, the countless fun-filled family attractions all around town, tourist destinations, beaches, parks, and pro-sports venues.
Very few would argue with the assertion that San Diego is a GREAT place to live in and/or visit.
However, there is another side of San Diego, which also lands us near the top of the list in America. According to statistics gathered by Family Safe Media, San Diego is ranked 8th in the country, of cities with the greatest "Erotic Importance" in the porn/adult industry.
"Erotica", according to The Free Dictionary, is basically any "literature or art that is intended to arouse sexual desire."
In other words, San Diego, we're a pretty naughty bunch.
According to the statistics reported by Family Safe Media, San Diego is ranked 8th in the country when it comes to "Adult Websites" and "Strip Clubs".
Is this truly surprising?
Rounding off the rest of the "Erotic Important Cities" are:
- Seattle/Pacific N.West is ranked 7th (for Adult Websites)
- Miami/S. Florida is ranked 6th (for Adult Websites/Penthouse)
- San Francisco is ranked 5th (for Adult Websites/Adult Companies)
- Chicago ranked 4th (for Playboy)
- New York ranked 3rd (for Adult Entrepeneurs and Erotica)
- Las Vegas ranked 2nd (for Adult Stars and Sin City Chamber of Commerce)
- Los Angeles ranked 1st (for Adult Production Companies)
The U. S. as a whole, is responsible for 89% of the world's pornographic web pages, with nearly a quarter of a Billion web pages produced (244, 661, 900 to be exact). Just to put things in perspective, the country closest to America's massive pornographic web page output is Germany with 10 million web pages!
Recently, we've learned of the disturbing developments in the Los Angeles School District, where two teachers were arrested for lewd acts on 23 children and the fondling of two little girls in class.
Adding to this is the recent passage of the Gay History bill, where children are to be taught that it is okay to be gay (which means sex with members of your own gender) and to celebrate those figures in California history who identified themselves as such, making them heroes.
Add to all of this, the continued insistance by millions across the country that there MUST be a "separation of church and state". Prayer must not be allowed in class. Mention of the tremendous importance of the founding fathers' religous faith is downplayed or minimized, while sexuality and sexual preference is to be celebrated.
Pornography is legal. In fact, it is a multi-billion dollar industry. It is a business and, well, sex seems to sell VERY well. In the U. S. alone, the industry rakes in a modest $13.33 BILLION dollars annually. However, this lands America in 4th place! China leads the way with over $27 BILLION.
The issue isn't so much whether pornography should be made illegal or not, but rather, what is at the very core of our humanity, which draws us to this uncontrollable, insatiable, self-gratifying practice? Just as importantly, what are the consequences of this? Who wins? Who loses?
