San Diego offers the best in the west for free come the New Year

With the onslaught of “our cheaper health care” slowly kicking in, and the realization that it’s not only going to cost us more, but it’s not going to be of the same high standard which was, we find ourselves figuring ways to tighten our belts, or looking for the roadmap to south of the border health care. Of course with 9 out of 10 of us well positioned under the morbidly obese sign, we also notice we need to buy much bigger belts in order to notch that hole further out along the equator. Anyone up for a free hike this weekend, just to get a bit healthier?

The best part of living in America’s Finest City, besides that you just need to show up and pay nothing to enjoy the beautiful vistas along the embarcadero, is that our City Planners have created lots of freebies for citizens and tourists alike to enhance the visit and allow champion memories of the trip that was golden.

San Diego Big Whale Festival http://www.whaledays.com/ will be happening January 25th this coming New Year. This will be the 6th annual event designed to showcase the embarcadero and provide “Free Family-Style Entertainment and Activities at Port Pavilion” all designed to learn about California gray whale ecology and conservation and find information about opportunities to interact with the whales safely and affordably.

Much of the activities of this event are free and create plenty to do for kids and grownups alike including: a walk-through gray whale, live sea creatures, free face painting, a kids art mural coloring project and a giant inflated obstacle course, a trackless train and two giant bounce houses. You’ll be able to enjoy live music featuring returning festival favorite," James Gibson Band" and Jinnah Williams and "Moon Dog", from Phoenix, AZ. Crowds loved the past performances from "Flamenco with Roots" a colorful and passionate local youth dance group so they will appear again, this year on the main stage!

There will also be a collaborative effort to show San Diego’s talents off at discounted rates with special offerings by many local merchants.

Get your calendar ready to enjoy our Embarcadero because this coming January will deliver the goods.
