An article previously published about the upcoming May 22nd Surf Dogs Competition in Imperial Beach led to an email I received from a reader. The email complimented me on an article well written… and brought to my attention one outstanding Surf Dog that I had not seen, nor even heard about, before.
Being that I have always been a little conspiracy-minded, I was hesitant to click on the link sent to me in that email. For all I knew, I could have ticked-off some psychopathological-sufferer, somehow offended by my story on surfing pets. The fear was that I’d click on a virus when I clicked on the link.
A message received via Twitter made me reconsider my paranoia. The tweet was from another reader who’d enjoyed my take on the Surf Dogs. Another reader, who happened to be very familiar with that outstanding Surf Dog which my original piece failed to mention.
The link turned out to be safe. It was not some attempt to corrupt my hard drive.
The Web address linked to a video about the outstanding surf dog I’d never known existed. I watched the short video about this special dog’s story. Sometime between looking at the last slideshow clip and shutting down the computer with tear-filled eyes… I became aware that I was no longer the same person I was before seeing the video.
The world was not the same. The print my soul leaves won’t be the same. I have learned something about the world that has permanently changed my outlook. Managing to be a bit less vague might come from comparing it to watching an episode of Gang Land. While learning about street thugs and violence that have been growing in my own back yard practically without me even knowing it breaks my spirit to some degree… the opposite can be said about this surfing dog’s video.
Here is proof for anyone who doubts there’s much good left in the world.
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Ricochet. One soul-shaping story, about one spirit-inspiring four-legged surfer with a calling.
