San Diego hotels host holiday festivities (Part 2 of 2)

Time is ticking towards 2014, but there are still a few weeks left in December to join in on the holiday festivities many hotels are offering San Diegans and visitors this holiday season.

Rancho Bernardo Inn hosts December Days & Nights for one-night stays, booking dates December 20-23. Guests have the opportunity to take photos with Santa, complimentary hot cocoa and treats, gingerbread cookie decorating, and a holiday music and light show. The holiday hotel package also includes a special in-room service for kids: S’mores & Snores. This special extra provides kids with a pop-up tent and freshly made S’more dessert delivered directly to their room. This special package starts at $179 per night for two adults and one child and $15 for each additional child.

Residents who may not choose to stay overnight can still visit the Inn to view their annual life-size gingerbread house displayed in the lobby. It is a giant holiday staple made of all edible ingredients. You will have to see for yourself to believe it. So, how much ginger is used in making a house that size? About four pounds!

Want more gingerbread goodness? The Manchester Grand Hyatt has a gingerbread village on display in the hotel’s lobby. The centerpiece is a gingerbread replica of the hotel. This holiday season, as in years past, the Manchester Grand Hyatt invites the public to vote for its favorite gingerbread house -- all of which have been constructed by students from San Diego Kimbrough & Monarch School and Perkins Elementary with the assistance of hotel staff. The class who wins will get to celebrate at the hotel for a holiday luncheon where a check for $1,500 will be presented to Make-A-Wish in the name of the winning class.

If you are in North County and would like to toast with a proper afternoon tea, head to the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront for a special selection of finger sandwiches, house-made scones, and a delicious assortment of pastries created by Executive Chef Pascal Vignau and Pastry Chef Patrick Jozwicka and his team. Pastries and scones will be served with Rose Petal Jam and Lemon Curd and all will, of course, be served with a selection of teas, a glass of sparkling wine is optional.

Reservations for tea are required 24 hours in advance for Saturdays, 1:00 p.m. to 3: 00 p.m. Adults are $27 per person, $36 with the glass of sparkling wine, plus tax and gratuity. Children 12 and under are $18. Visitors to the hotel can also enjoy holiday performances of Kaleidoscope Carolers strolling through the lobby and courtyard on Friday, December 20 and 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

With all that's happening this month, take a break from the holiday shopping and frenzied end-of-the-year activity, and enjoy a celebration of the season at your favorite San Diego hotel!
