The recent spat of wild fires in San Diego left the drought-ridden state fearful that one spark would burn the entire county. However, the earlier than usual fires proved the county has learned from their mistakes of the 2007 fires that took 1,200 homes.

Looking to change future fires, San Diego county spent $285 million to add reserves 911 call system, a couple of helicopters and hired an additional 900 fire fighters.
