New Years is an ideal time to learn more about art. San Diego offers art courses that match almost every interest and build on the natural beauty and impressive art exhibitions in our area.
On Monday, January 9, the Art Academy of San Diego will start a new series of classes for drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewelry, stained glass and photography. There are separate painting classes for oils, acrylics and watercolors. The San Diego Art Department in North Park offers similar choices, as well as silk painting, collage, pastel and portraits.
The Fallbrook School of the Arts in San Diego North County will host its annual open house next Saturday, January 14. This exceptional art learning resource offers many course that are usually only taught at top art schools like the Cranbrook Academy and Rhode Island School of Design. Wet felting, fabric arts, metal casting, wire art, figurative watercolor painting, and intaglio painting dry point technique are part of the regular course offerings, along with all of the fundamentals of classical fine art training.
This spring, the Extension Division of San Diego State University will offer a non-credit course in art history on the SDSU campus. This is a rare opportunity for art lovers who majored in other subjects like engineering or economics to acquire a rigorous education in art history at a major research university.
If you would like to combine your art education program with a visit to the many museums of San Francisco, the Winter Art Symposium of the California Art Club will take place in S.F. on January 21 and 22. This will include demonstrations of oil painting, pastels and portrait drawing.
