This is a confusing time for Americans to sort out the new health plan as well as the cost and requirements for each person. Our mayor Julian Castro has a video embedded on the website above that helps explain some of the features, in addition there are links to Metro Health and clinics locations across the city.
Beginning this October 1st to March 31, 2014, you can sign up for coverage. Most people will be required to have health insurance or pay a penalty. And your health coverage can start as soon as Jan. 1, 2014.
Small business owners with less than 50 employees will need to understand the new requirements to offer health coverage to employees.
You can also call 1 800 706 7893 for answers about the Small Business Health Options Marketplace (SHOP) or review the site at www.healthcare.gov
And Certified Application Counselors at the "Marketplace" are available to help people enroll for coverage.
According to the San Antonio web site, "....there are 100,000-300,000 people in Bexar County who are eligible for subsidized insurance through the Marketplace."
There is also in-person assistance at San Antonio Library Branches to help local residents.
The first step is to go online and gather information about the health plans and then create an online account with your basic information. The details on the various health insurance plans and cost will need to be reviewed before a final decision. When you are ready to do the Marketplace application have your social security numbers, employer and income information and any current health plan information with you as you complete the form.
Stay healthy San Antonio.
