The purpose of the San Antonio Founders Day http://sanantoniofoundersday.org celebration is to bring together the more than twenty cultural groups and individuals who helped settle and shape this city. They were on hand yesterday at the grounds of The Alamo http://thealamo.org and Alamo Plaza to inform and entertain the public about their heritage and history as it pertains to Texas and the world.
The 8th annual family friendly festivities started at 10:00am with the food and cultural booths ready to go while a bagpiper entertained the crowd that had gathered around the gazebo. Dressed in full historical costumes, not only were the participants of the cultural groups giving out information but they were also mingling with the public and taking pictures with them. These included, among others, the Buffalo soldiers and different Native American personalities.
This was truly a display of the city’s diversity as evident by the different live music and dancing. There were also reenactments as well as hands-on activities to keep the children busy. It was a treat to locals and tourists who were lucky enough to be in town for the celebration.
