San Antonio College hosts a panel discussion on writing for publication

San Antonio College has proven its connection to the city's art and literary scene through on-going events and community outreach programs. Right now, in fact, the college is displaying a dynamic collection of work by artists associated with the college. This Art Adjunct Faculty Exhibition is free for all, as are the services at the SAC Writing Center.

Aspiring writers in San Antonio are invited to attend a panel discussion on writing for publication. Speakers will include local authors, H Christine Lindbloom, and writers from San Antonio College's own Cheshyre Cheese Club.

With a variety of perspectives on the pursuit of publication, this will be an informative event for creative writers at every level, who want to share a story or poem. Lindbloom is a writing manager at Complete That Manuscript, and she will be speaking about how writers can hone their craft and appeal to an audience. An expert in author promotion, she will also speak on the changing ways that electronic media can be utilized to find the right outlet for an author's persona.

As one of the featured authors, I will discuss the ins and outs of pursuing publication: how to know when your story is ready to submit, how to navigate the changing world of print and e-publication, and how to write and submit cover letters to journals. I will also discuss my journey of book publication (Musical Chairs), working with a publisher, and incorporating self-promotion. Students and community members are also invited to bring questions and concerns about their own works as this will be an inclusive atmosphere, one that will offer writers resources that they can take with them.

This event will take place in the theater in McCreless Hall Thursday, February 18th from 2:30-4:00PM. Call 486-0668 with any questions.

I just caught this! I wish I'd known sooner. I sure would have attended! How did it go?

The event will happen on Thursday, and the discussion should be lively. If you can't make it, no worries. I'll cover what happened, including resources. (I just added the date to the time above.)
