A Samurai sword police standoff with a nude man wielding the dangerous weapon occurred close to an expressway in San Jose, according to local media reports. The police standoff happened Jan. 1 and lasted an enduring three-hours.
The crazed man repeatedly told officers on the scene "You're going to have to kill me!" Police then distracted the man with a flash-bang which eventually led to his capture. The man was identified as Coco Bennett, 29, and his reason for threatening the officers is believed to be due to distress and mental illness.
After police received a call about a man in front of a residence with a gun, they followed Bennett as he was leaving the scene. The man saw the police in pursuit, he then stopped his vehicle and then started shouting after he got out.
Officers were able to apprehend the man and retrieve the assault rifle from the car after he attempted to jump a fence. He was then taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries he sustained from his altercation with police.
Officer Alberto Morales of the San Jose police department said that the mentally unstable man will be taken to the county jail after he is discharged from the hospital.
