Following rumors that Samsung is set to release a compact sized Galaxy S5 smartphone, new reports appear to confirm at least one of its features. As PhoneArena (April 25) reports, the smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship will be waterproof and dust-proof just like its larger, 5-inch display sibling.
Previous rumors already put IP67 certification for water and dust resistance on the list of specs for the Galaxy S5 Mini (SM-G800). Samsung’s New Zealand Website allegedly confirms the S5 Mini’s ability to withstand damage from water and dust. This, according to a snapshot of the warranty information published by PhoneArena. “Submersion of the Samsung Galaxy S5, S5 Mini or S4 Active Mobile Phone in water for 30 minutes or more,” read one of the bullet points on the list of warranty exclusions.
It looks like the inclusion of the water resistant Galaxy S5 Mini under the warranty details may have been listed prematurely, as it has since been removed from the site. Another hint that the S5 Mini will likely arrive on the mobile retail market soon comes from French case manufacturer, Noreve. As GSMArena reports, a product page for the Galaxy S5 Mini leather case states that the handcrafted cases are currently in production and will be available soon.
So far, rumors suggest that the compact Galaxy S5 Mini will feature a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 720p. The smartphone is said to run on a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB RAM and tote 16GB of internal storage space. It’s expected to sport an infrared (IR) blaster to double as a smart TV remote controller, a 2 mega-pixel (MP) front-facing camera and an 8MP snapper on the back. Powering the pint sized S5 Mini handset will be a 2,100 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat will be the stock operating system on deck.
As SamMobile points out, much of the alleged specs of the upcoming Galaxy S5 mini are similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini released in July 2013. An official reveal is tipped to take place in June, according to SamMobile, one month after the announcement of another rumored Samsung device, the Galaxy K (SM-C115) aka Galaxy S5 Zoom. Noreve is also working on a leather case for the Galaxy S5 Zoom 20MP/10x zoom camera phone, with rumored specs of a 4.8-inch 720p display, 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and 2GB RAM.
According to IBTimes, Samsung is slated to launch the S5 Zoom on April 29 in Singapore, which conflicts with rumors of a May reveal. Pricing and availability for the rumored Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom remain unknown.
