Following on from the success of the Samsung Galaxy S4 active, it appears as though Samsung are getting ready to launch a new version of the device. Thanks to a video that was posted online today May 21, by TK Tech News, we can see that the South Korean tech giant is planning to release a Galaxy S5 variant of the Active line.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active would be the follow-up to last years surprise hit, the rugged Galaxy S4 Active. The original S4 Active differentiated itself from the regular S4 by offering a reinforced, dust-proof, and water-proof design that featured physical buttons under the screen instead of capacitive buttons. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active seemed to be the perfect solution for those who liked to take their tech on the wild side, but one has to wonder if a new version of the S5 is needed, especially as the current version is already dust, and water-resistant thanks to its ip67 rating.
The video shows the Galaxy S5 in action while running on AT&T's LTE network. The Galaxy S5 Active is rumored to sport the same physical buttons under the display as the S4 variant so that the device can be used while submerged under water. While last years Galaxy S4 Active used a regular LCD screen, the alleged S5 Active will boast a stunning 1080p Super AMOLED display, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor as the current S5, 2GB of RAM, and a 15.9-megapixel camera.
The rumor of another spin-off from the Samsung Galaxy line comes as no surprise. Samsung are quite good at making and releasing many variants of the same phone. The leak of the alleged S5 Active follows on from the rumor of the Galaxy S5 Prime, a faster, better equipped version of the current Galaxy S5.
