CNET reported today that the successor to Samsung's Galaxy S3 will likely launch in April. This news was posted on the Samsung news website, SamMobile, which specified the launch date of the phone as April 15.
The Galaxy S family of smart phones has become the true competitor for Apple's iPhone. With as much hype and anticipation as that of Apple's iPhone, the Galaxy S smart phone, in spite of a slow start, shot out of the gate with the S3 version as a blockbuster hit. The Galaxy S3 smart phone has maintained its market position remarkably well even as other competitive phones have slowly left the limelight. The phone has helped bring Samsung into the top spot among handset vendors.
The Galaxy S4 smart phone, expected to be branded 'Galaxy S IV', as the image suggests, will feature wireless charging as a key feature, even if the service will not be built-in, as in other smart phones such as the Nokia Lumia 920 or Droid DNA. Customers will need to buy an optional wireless charging station and replacement cover. The Galaxy S4 smart phone will also likely feature a larger 2,600 mAh battery, compared to the one the 2,100 mAh battery that comes with the Galaxy S3 smartphone.
With an expected launch date in April 2013, SamMobile indicated that Samsung would likely hold its own event in March, or possibly unveil the smart phone at Mobile World Congress, which begins in late February 2013. The Galaxy S3 smart phone was introduced at a Samsung event in May 2012.
Even if the April 15 launch date turns out to be the correct launch date for the Galaxy S4 smart phone, that does not mean the phone will be introduced in the US at the same time. As with the Galaxy S3 smart phone, the Galaxy S4 smart phone may be introduced at different times depending on when the different US carriers prefer to release their respective versions of the phone, which could vary from days to weeks.
