Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners are scheduled to receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update soon. Reports are that Samsung plans to make the OS available to the devices by the end of March.

As GSM Arena reports (Jan. 21), a software engineer confirms that the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 are due for the Android KitKat OS update just after the Galaxy S4 roll out. The Android KitKat update has already been pushed to Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 3 phones and the S4 is next in line. Recently leaked test builds of the latest Android 4.4.2 OS indicate that the S4 update is on the verge of rolling out, according to Android Geeks.

Android KitKat won’t add any major new features to the 2012 Galaxy S3 and Note 2 flagships other than minor changes to the user interface. This includes a new transparent status bar, full screen immerse mode and print feature in the settings menu.

As with all software updates the new Galaxy S3 and Note 2 Android KitKat OS will roll out in phases via U.S. wireless carriers. Not all device owners will receive the update immediately and patience is a must. It’s not uncommon for some carrier branded devices to receive be updated a month later than expected.
