Android fans have been foaming at the mouth to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the launch device for Android 4.0, saddled with the unfortunate moniker, "Ice Cream Sandwich."
Engadget is reporting this morning that the Nexus is slated to hit both Costco and Verizon Wireless stores, tomorrow, December 15th. So Columbus Android geeks need to plan on checking out local Verizon stores to see if the new devices are in stock.
A search on the Verizon Wireless website for the Galaxy Nexus only reveals an email sign-up form to be informed on the smartphone and "to be one of the first" to purchase one.
The first Android 4.0 smartphone
The Galaxy Nexus is a large smartphone, though slightly smaller than the still unavailable in the US Galaxy Note. It sports a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a TI Dual Core processor, and a separate graphics processing unit.
Engadget raved over its review model calling it arguably the best smartphone on the market with gorgeous graphics, and fast processing speed.
Android 4.0 (this reporter is not going to call it Ice Cream Sandwich!) looks to take the improvements of Android Honeycomb, streamlining them to work smoothly on the smaller smartphone form factor. Apple needs to step up to the plate with their next iOS iteration.
Columbus Android fans take note
Tomorrow could be an important day for the local Android fan, if the rumors are true and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus gets released tomorrow. Somehow, the typical Apple Store lines greeting a new iPhone release aren't expected.
