Yesterday, at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin, the new Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was unveiled to the public. In what may be a race to beat Apple to market with a smartwatch, announced that its Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be on sale by September 25, 2013.
Rumors of a smartwatch from Apple have been circulating for some time now. With the release of the Apple iPhone 5S slated for the 10th of this month, this release by Samsung appears to be another attempt to steal some of Apple’s thunder.
Samsung has already begun to outpace Apple in overall smartphone sales worldwide. This new Samsung Galaxy Gear watch is made to work together with the manufacturers family of smartphones allowing users to access calls, texts and apps right on their wrist. Oh, and it also tells the time.
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch sell for a price of $299 according to the announcement.
The technical details of the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch include a 1.6-inch screen and a weight of 2.6 ounces. The Samsung smartwatch also has a 1.9 megapixel camera embedded in the strap and a built-in speaker for hands-free phone calls – linked wirelessly through the users Samsung smartphone.
