Here’s lookin’ at you kid, over the rim of a highball wet with whiskey. Just like Humphrey Bogart in the all-time film classic Casablanca. But what kind of food would accompany that drink? What might they have served in Rick’s Café Américain?
On Feb. 23 Toronto’s Revue Cinema is offering up some culinary answers, along with a screening of the movie, in their next presentation of The Epicure's Revue.
Join food stylist Olga Truchan and several Roncesvalles Village restaurateurs as they provide samples of menu items suggestive of Rick's Café Américain and the cuisine of North Africa during WWII. In addition, a special occasion liquor license allows for the service of alcoholic beverages for this particular screening. Look for champagne, cognac and Canadian Club to accompany the food inspired by exotic spices and ancient Moroccan traditions.
Food sampling begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by an introduction to the film, presentation of the movie, and a Q&A following the screening. Food is included in the price of admission but alcohol beverages will cost extra. Tickets are $10 for members and seniors; $12 for non-members.
See you at the movies.
