Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of an Emmy-award winning health talk show, has come to be associated with natural health remedies and safe solutions to problems ranging from sagging energy to lack of sleep. However, Dr. Oz recognizes that losing weight has become one of the biggest challenges for millions, and he also has taken on the role of weight loss wizard. Recently, Dr. Oz approved a seven-day crash diet as safe and effective. Created by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, who authored "Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss," the diet teaches you how to eat more nutrient-dense foods to lose weight quickly.
Here's a sample day on the plan, which focuses on eating 90 percent nutrient-dense foods (vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, beans and whole grains) and 10 percent meat, dairy and healthy oils. Learn more about what to eat on the diet with Dr. Fuhrman's "Nutritarian Handbook & ANDI Food Scoring Guide."
- Breakfast: Enjoy fruit, oats and flax for a filling, healthy morning meal.
- Lunch: Fire up your fat-blasting ability with beans, which contain resistant starch. They lower your blood sugar and result in a decrease in fat. Try black beans with a big salad and a piece of fresh fruit for dessert.
- Dinner: You won't feel deprived when you can have pizza for dinner! Accompany it with a salad and fresh fruit. The recipe, created by Dr. Fuhrman, follows.
Easy Vegetable Pizza Ingredients
- 4 large 100% whole grain pitas
2 cups pasta sauce, no-salt-added or low-sodium
1/2 cup chopped shiitake mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped red onion
10 oz frozen broccoli florets, thawed and finely chopped
1/2 cup shredded non-dairy mozzarella-type cheese
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Place pitas on two baking sheets and warm for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and spoon on the pasta sauce. Sprinkle evenly with the mushrooms, onion and broccoli. Add a light sprinkle of cheese. Bake for 30 minutes.
