Sami Schultz had four hits and the go ahead RBI in the eighth inning to lead the Husson University Eagles softball team to a 6-5 extra inning victory over Albion at Winter Haven, Florida on Sunday afternoon.
Kayla Merrill had two hits from the leadoff spot and earned the victory in the circle.
Merrill pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits and one walk. She struck out six.
The Eagles got the scoring started when Sarah Babin scored on a RBI single from Merrill during the top of the second inning.
Husson took a 4-1 lead on a Jess Poulin single to center-field that scored Casey Lopes and Allison Hill.
The Eagles took a 5-2 lead, when Babin scored on a Haley Spiers single during the top of the seventh inning.
Albion took advantage of two walks and two hit batters to even the score with three runs during the bottom of the seventh inning.
The top of the eighth inning started with Spiers on second base. She advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt from Lyndsey Merrill. Spiers came around to score on the Schultz single.
Kayla Merrill closed out the victory by retiring the side in order after a runner was put on second to start the eighth inning.
Spiers, Poulin, and Lyndsey Merrill had two hits each for the Eagles.
Poulin had two RBI, and Babin scored two runs.
Husson (1-1) fell 7-0 earlier on Sunday to Illinois. Wesleyan. Kayla Merrill, Chelsea Brennan, and Mallory Conary got the hits for the Eagles in their season opener.
The Eagles baseball team lost their season opener 6-5 to RPI on Sunday morning.
