The Nevada Wolf Pack's slide continues.
The Wolf Pack got 33 points from Malik Story on Saturday but it wasn't nearly enough as the San Diego State Aztecs cruised to an easy 88-75 victory at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs led by 14 at halftime and by 22 midway through the second half to improve to 20-7 overall and 8-5 in the Mountain West. The Wolf Pack, now 12-14, 3-9, has now lost three in a row, six of its last seven and 10 of its last 13.
San Diego State pulled away after a 3-pointer by Story pulled the Pack to within 29-28 with 8:49 to go in the first half. The Aztecs outscored the Wolf Pack 17-4 over the final 8:31 of the first half after a 3-pointer by Xavier Thames.
Despite his big night (12-of-22 from the field and 7-of-13 on threes), Story went cold at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half for a stretch of over 12 minutes. The senior was 0-for-6 from the field with three turnovers in those 12 fatal minutes as San Diego State increased its lead from 29-28 with 8:49 to go in the first half to 55-35 with just over 16 minutes to go in the second half.
The Wolf Pack made just one field goal -- a lay-up by Marqueze Coleman -- over the final 8:49 of the first half.
Chase Tapley had a 3-pointer as San Diego state took a 55-35 lead with 17:07 to play. DeShawn Stephens' dunk made it 70-48 with 10:28 to play.
The Wolf Pack also got 16 points in 23 minutes from Jerry Evans and 12 points and 10 assists from Deonte Burton. Cole Huff, Kevin Panzer, Coleman and Devonte Elliott, though, combined for six points in 51 minutes.
The Pack, thanks to Story, was 12-of-24 on 3-pointers. It is Pack's most 3-pointers in a game since they drained 16 in an 81-57 win over San Jose State on Jan. 12, 2012. It is also the most 3-pointers in a loss for the Pack since David Carter took over as head coach in 2009-10.
The Wolf Pack will play at Boise State on Wednesday night before returning home to face UNLV on March 2.
