As Opening Day draws close, several teams around the Majors are starting to announce who will be their starting pitcher to kick off the season. On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs noted that Matt Garza may not be available to join the rotation until May, so they have listed Jeff Samardzija as their Opening Day starter. Below is a list of who has been announced so far.
- Cubs - Jeff Samardzija
- Oakland - Brett Anderson
- Cleveland - Justin Masterson
- Arizona - Ian Kennedy
- Yankees - Juan Rivera
- Pittsburgh - AJ Burnett
- Dodgers - Clayton Kershaw
- Mets - Johan Santana
- Detroit - Justin Verlander
Now these are just a few names that have been officially announced as Opening Day starter for these teams. More will obviously be announced in the coming weeks, as most teams are simply trying to narrow down their choices from two or three possible options.
