Sam Stout drops Austin’s Yves Edwards

Yves Edwards has long been one of MMA’s most experienced fighters with just two fights shy of sixty. Forty of those fights are wins. Edwards, a resident of The Woodlands located north of Houston who currently fights out of Austin was looking to revive his MMA career in the UFC. Edwards stepped into the cage at UFC 131 riding a three fight win streak with two of those wins coming in the UFC.

His opponent, Canadian born Sam Stout, split his last two bouts with a win over Paul Taylor and a loss to Jeremy Stevens. Stout has a reputation for dazzling the crowd with exciting fights winning the ‘Fight of the Night’ award five times.

Unfortunately for Edwards, Stout did not disappoint the fans in Canada. Late in the first round Stout caught Edwards with a hook that sent Edwards to the mat with no follow up needed.

Both men showed solid striking but as it happens in MMA it can only take one miss step or opening and your night ends early.

The 34-year-old Edwards was out on mat for several minutes following the shot that delivered the ‘Knockout of the Night’ bonus to Stout.

Both men are considered fringe lightweights, as they are not top ten. It is uncertain where this win for Stout will leave him or even where this loss will leave Edwards.

For now, Edwards will need to reassess his game and look to turn things around the next time out. Stout will look to build on a now two-fight win streak and work his way into the top ten.
