Apple has announced its 2014 iTunes Festival schedule of performers at the eight annual event on Monday and leading the way is newcomer Sam Smith. The British soul singer has had quite the year so far and that success has seen him going from iTunes Festival spectator just a year ago to one of the musical guests who will take the stage in London this fall.
Smith is just part of a diverse musical lineup that includes Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Blondie, Kyle, David Guetta, 5 Seconds of Summer, Calvin Harris and Chrissie Hynde. In all, over 60 musical acts will be featured at the festival. In the announcement, it was also noted that the concerts will be available for viewing for free.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said, “These live shows capture the heart and soul of iTunes and we love bringing them to our customers in the Roundhouse, as well as to the millions of people watching all over the world for free.”
As for Sam Smith, the “Stay With Me” singer has continued his hot steak. Last week, Smith took over at No. 1 on the new Billboard Artist 100 chart. The new chart is a weekly ranking that measures artist activity across Billboard’s most influential charts. The soul singer currently has the No. 3 album and his lead single from the album, “Stay With Me,” is currently No. 5 on the Hot 100. His collaborative single, “Latch,” with Disclosure has also risen to the top 10.
And if that wasn’t enough, Smith has also been nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards. In an announcement made last week, the breakout artist has been nominated for “Stay With Me” for Best Male Video and has also been nominated for Artist to Watch. Fans of the young singer have certainly been following him for quite awhile and new fans have quickly learned just who Sam Smith is.
