Movie fans in Scottsdale are waiting for the release of "Oz The Great and Powerful" to theaters. On Sunday, March 3, Collider shared a new interview with Sam Raimi about the film. The site also shared an interview with Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz as well. The latest photos of the cast at an event promoting the release of the film are from Getty Images. This film is set to arrive in theaters on Friday from Disney, and Sam Raimi discussed the challenges the film gave him as a film maker. One of those challenges was tackling 3D. He said the following about taking on that aspect of the film, according to Collider:
"Yes, there were a tremendous amount of new challenges for me. I didn’t know anything about 3D, so I had to go to school and learn about 3D. I had to meet technicians and study the camera systems and go to effects houses and hear what the different visual effects artists had to say about working with the systems. I had to shoot some test days and see what the affects of convergence were on the audience and why the audience gets a headache. I used to get headaches in 3D movies, and I didn’t want this movie to give people headaches."
The actresses in the film, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, had their own challenges to face during the filming of this project, and the main challenge was the flying sequences. They did have help with these scenes though. Sam Raimi brought in his people that helped him film "Spider-Man." Weisz said the following about flying in the film:
"It’s very fun! It was a little scary, the first day. We had a rehearsal period with these wonderful stunt coordinators who had worked extensively with Sam on the Spider-Man films, so they were all experts in making people fly."
This new film is based on the original books by Frank L. Baum, but it is not a musical as the original film was. Plans to include music in the film were taken out during production. One musical number had been intended as a tribute to the original film.
Fans are buzzing about this series on social media. One fan said the following on Twitter recently:
Had a super fantastic Monday night watching #OzTheGreatandPowerful, so much fun and maybe the best opening credits I can remember!
Scottsdale residents will be able to see this film at the Harkins Scottsdale Fashion Square 7 or another local theater in the area starting this Friday.
