It was reported a long time ago that the 24th and 25th James Bond films would be shot back-to-back, and have a linking story line, but apparently that is no longer happening.
Given the success of the latest Bond outing “Skyfall” the studio is eager to have director Sam Mendes return to the director’s chair, but he isn’t keen on directing two films in a row (he likes to direct theater also).
According to Daily Mail today the acclaimed director, with “Skyfall” writer John Logan, have been working together to develop a standalone film for the 24th outing, and Mendes intends to direct it if the script meets his standards.
While nothing yet is known about the plot Daniel Craig (“Layer Cake”) is set to return to the role, and the initial release date (which I assume will have to be changed now) was for November 2014.
“Skyfall” was a fantastic Bond movie (not the best, but still amazing), and I can’t wait to see Mendes and Craig work together again (they were great on "Road to Perdition") so hopefully the studio does right by them and gives them the creative freedom and time they deserve.
