With 742 yards of total offense, the Sam Houston State University Bearkats beat Southland Conference rival Stephen F Austin University to win The Battle of the Piney Woods by the score of 56-49 on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 in front of 26,213 fans at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The Lumberjacks also exhibited their offensive punch by tallying 557 yards of total offense.
The game was a scoring festival with both teams trading the lead right up to the final gun.
Offensively, the Sam Houston passing attack accounted for 339 of the 742 total yards, with quarterback Brian Bell completing 19 of 29 passes and four touchdowns.
Hill scored two touchdowns on his 73 yards.
The Lumberjacks’ Gus Johnson carried the ball 26 times for 152 yards and one touchdown while Tyler Boyd led all receivers with 11 catches for 206 yards and one TD.
Brady Attaway had his best game of the season for SFA, completing 26 of 46 passes for 505 yards and five touchdowns.
Mike Brooks carried the ball seven times for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
With the win, the Bearkats raise their season record to 7-2, along with a 3-1 mark in conference play.
The Lumberjacks finished the game with a 3-6 mark and fell to 1-3 in conference action.
Sam Houston will next host Nicholls State at home on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a 2 p.m. start.
SFA will host McNeese State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m.
