'Sam and Cat' cancelled: Last show to air, is Jennette McCurdy to blame?

Popular Nickelodeon show "Sam and Cat" will air it's final episode on Saturday evening and many blame Jennette McCurdy for it's cancellation. Back in April, pictures of Jennette McCurdy were leaked online. The near nude photos of Jennette show the star in just a bra and panties. She was not exposing anything x-rated but the photos still got people talking. McCurdy, who is very much an adult at 21-years old, plays a teenager on the "Sam and Cat."

The pictures of McCurdy leaked just before the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. Everyone assumed that was why she did not attend the event. Jennette even took to Twitter and told fans why she would not be in attendance. “I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing."

In the aftermath of the picture scandal, news that "Sam and Cat" was cancelled was also announced. Although a reason for the cancellation was never made public, everyone knew it was because of the drama with Jennette McCurdy. There is just no other explanation for it. The show was one of Nickelodeon's most popular teen sitcoms and the ratings were great.

Nickelodeon reps aren't confirming or denying an actual cancellation at this point. They say they are taking an extended break in this released statement:

“We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of ‘Sam & Cat,’ and everyone is understandably tired. We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much needed rest.”

That much is true. The cast filmed 20 episodes of the popular show initially. It was so popular that they immediately shot 20 more and there was a much longer than normal production cycle for the show.

There are other rumors of internal issues with the cast of "Sam and Cat." Ariana Grande, who co-stars with McCurdy, is seeing much success with her music career. It's quite possible that she's ready to move on as well. There have been rumors that McCurdy and Grande have not been getting along and this photo scandal might have just pushed everyone over the edge.
