The Denver Salvation Army ARC (Adult Rehabilitation Center), of which I am a proud member of their Advisory Council, has made possible an ideal fundraising effort for all amateur boxing clubs (and any other interested group) in the form of a ‘Shoe Drive’ where old shoes (no matter their condition) are gathered and then prepared for shipping to be recycled with each pound of shoes garnering some .65 cents for that club or organization.
This is an easy way of securing funds for any amateur club while benefitting those in need and for more information contact Captain Ron McKinney, Community Relations Manager the Salvation Army Denver ARC, at 303-293-3452 or 303-956-7385, him available to speak to any amateur boxing club for further explanation.
Tonight, Airtight Boxing (Steve Mestas) presents ‘READY TO RUMBLE’, a fight card featuring two of Denver’s better light welterweight’s in the main event as Alfred ‘Tornado’ Romero (7-2, 6 KO’s) and Daniel Calzada (9-9-2, 2 KO’s) tangle in a rematch where in their first encounter back on August 31, 2012, Calzada pulled out the close split decision win with scores or 69-64 and 68-65 going his way and one judge seeing Romero winning 67-66 making this one you won't want to miss.
There may be a few tickets remaining and for that and any other information regarding this card contact Steve Mestas at 720-298-1954.
The usual ‘after-party’ for Airtight Boxing performances will be held at Hart’s Corner Bar & Restaurant, 5201 W. Mississippi Ave. in Lakewood, where the partying will go on until 2AM.
Make sure you look up the proprietor Nikki Ellerman-Romero and ask for my favorite, the fried mushrooms, you choosing any one of her selections of burgers or wings being a close runner-up.
