Salt Lake Vally Health Department (SLVHD) and the Davis County Health Department (DCHD) ran out of H1N1 vaccine today and people began to panic.

Last Friday, many of the Salt Lake City TV stations ran stories saying that no further H1N1 shots would be available until Tuesday, when more H1N1 vaccine shots available. They also included information stated that most hospitals and clinics would only take appointments over the phone and by Internet, and that there would not longer be the need to wait in line.  So they asked the public to call at 9:00 am on Tuesday morning.

Today, Salt Lake Valley Health Department booked 2900 reservation slots in 14 minutes. The website and phone lines were jammed because the Salt Lake Valley Health Department ran out of H1N1 vaccine. Salt Lake County has received 70,000 H1N1 vaccine doses, and 20,000 just this week, but that hasn't filled the demand. The Davis County Health department also ran out of their vaccine.

Health officials at Salt Lake Country Health Department said that the public was frustrated and in a panic. Many people are worried they will get the flu and they just want the shot. The Salt Lake Country Health Department attempted to make changes to their process to make things easier for people, but it seems to have set them into a panic because now they can’t get through on the phone or Internet.

The CDC is again asking for the public’s patience as it catches up with the demand. Everyone who wants the shot should have it by the end of November.
